KICK's role in the ECD ecosystem
KICK acts as a practical bridge between donors, community needs and implementation partners. Through its relationship with Early Inspiration, KICK is able to connect funding and volunteer support to programmes that are technically sound, monitored and focused on children's holistic development.
KICK allows community-based needs to be addressed through structured Education and ECD expertise. Through training, mentoring, curriculum, monitoring and implementation capacity, KICK is able to focus on sustainable change rather than once-off assistance.
What KICK supports
KICK's work is best understood as a set of connected programme areas. Each element strengthens the child's daily experience: the student, the practitioner, the classroom, the family, the ECD centre and the wider community.
Practitioner training and professionalisation
KICK supports the training of ECD practitioners, particularly those working in under-resourced communities. Through Early Inspiration, practitioners can access foundational training, accredited pathways, mentorship and classroom implementation support.
Curriculum and classroom implementation
Early Inspiration's National Curriculum Framework-aligned curriculum provides structured, play-based activities across literacy, numeracy, movement, music, creative arts, life skills and socio-emotional development. KICK-funded support can help centres move from survival mode to intentional early learning.
Centre management and compliance
ECD principals and management committees need support with governance, administration, compliance, budgeting, fundraising, health and safety, registration requirements and strategic planning.
SMS parenting campaign
The Tiny Steps. Big Growth parenting SMS campaign provides simple daily tips and ecouragement for parents of children aged 1-5. This allows support to reach families beyond the ECD centre, in a low-cost and accessible way.
ECD centre redevelopment and resourcing
Many ECD centres care for children in unsafe or under-equipped spaces. KICK historically supported infrastructure and resources such as classroom structures, rainwater tanks, fencing, playground equipment and learning materials, with the goal of improving safety and stimulation.
Practitioner support services
Training should not end with a certificate. Alumni and ECD staff benefit from ongoing check-ins, mentorship, resources, peer learning and updated guidance so that quality practice is sustained in the classroom.
Parent and caregiver support
Parents and caregivers are children's first teachers. KICK's updated model includes parent support groups and practical parenting guidance that strengthens home learning, confidence, responsive caregiving and family involvement in the ECD centre.
Community care and family support
KICK has historically responded to practical family needs, including gift boxes, school uniforms, blankets, educational games, school support and ad hoc assistance for families facing hardship.
